Daily Search Forum Recap: October 2, 2019
- August 10, 2020
Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.
Search Engine Roundtable Stories:
- Vlog #18: Russ Jones On (DA) Domain Authority & What’s Next For Moz
Russ Jones (@rjonesx) is the Principal Search Scientist at Moz. He joined Moz in 2015 after consulting for the company for years. Russ still does coding but the “real” engineers clean up his code for production. Russ is responsible for the keyword search volume throughout the Moz… - Google Ads Browser-Based Report Editor Cross-Account Analysis
Google has expanded the ability of doing cross-account Google Ads analysis within the Report Editor within the Google Ads browser based console. Google allowed this in 2017 but it had to be done outside of Google Ads, now you can do it directly within Google Ads. - Google: HTML Sitemaps Not Worthwhile For SEO Purposes
Google’s John Mueller posted on Reddit that he agrees, that HTML sitemaps are not worthwhile for SEO purposes. He said “I agree. When it comes to SEO … for small sites, your site should be crawlable anyway (and if you’re using a common CMS, it’ll almost always be fine) & for large sites, they’re not going to be useful anyway (use sitemaps, use normal cross-linking, check with a crawler of your choice).” - Google Featured Snippet Image Carousel To Show More Results
We’ve seen variations of Google showing image carousels in the featured snippet position, but this one seems new. If you search for [seo checklist] you may see a featured snippet that also shows an image carousel that lets you click on the images to see “more results” for that answer. - Google Webmaster Conference At The GooglePlex
Google has been hosting webmaster conferences all over the place, espesially in India and other regions where you cannot find many SEO type conferences. Well, that is now changing with Google hosting a Google Webmaster Conference at the GooglePlex, in Mountain View, California. - Rel=Sponsored Cookies At SMX Exhibitor
This is clever for an SMX sponsor to give away rel=sponsored cookies at an SMX event. Kenichi Suzuki posted a photo of them while at the SMX Advanced Europe show. The cookies are from AvantGrade are
Other Great Search Forum Threads:
- Incognito mode is coming to Google Maps! Handy one for making sure your results aren’t personalised. Will definitely be a feature that I’ll be using regularly. Rolling out on Android this month, with iOS coming soon. More, Brodie Clark on Twitter
- Just because a site has some bad links doesn’t mean we won’t show it in search. Also, if you have a list of quite a few sites with issues, I’m happy to forward those to the webspam team to double-check. In, John Mueller on Twitter
- October 2019 AdSense Earnings & Observations, WebmasterWorld
- Sure. If we recognize that we persistently can’t index a page, it’s generally not worth spending as much time on crawling it., John Mueller on Twitter
- You’re welcome to submit a spam report if you want, but by what you’re describing, that’s not a sign of anything bad. Also, sites can (and some do) buy traffic, that doesn’t mean much. My recommendation: don’t lo, John Mueller on Twitter
